Before realizing these goals, however, a strategic plan will be drawn according to the customer’s individual specifications. This plan may evolve during the work process, however, in order to more efficiently accomplish the customer’s final goal.
A company wanted to develop a process which would enable it to produce several thousand kilograms of methoxyacetone (1-methoxy-2-propanone), containing at least 0.5% of 1-methoxy-2-propanol. The customer also indicated that they wanted to realize a stereospecific reduction of cetone into pure enantiomere (alcohol). The methoxyacetone is produced industrially by oxyding 1-methoxy-2-propanol. The 1-methoxy-2-propanol is found in the commercial product at a rate of 1.5%.
In this case, we conceived and developed a process which could be run at an industrial scale and would not use 1-methoxy-2-propanol as raw material. The methoxyacetone is obtained with a purity exceeding 99%.
